Water reached the display connection
Most likelyMoisture around the connector causes lines, flicker and blank screens, and corrodes it over days.
Water inside the display layers
PossibleCloudy or rainbow patches that move as the phone warms are moisture inside the panel.
Board damage
PossibleWater that reached the board can cause a black screen even if the display is fine.
Try this first
- Don't switch it back on to check it, and don't charge it. Power running through a wet board is what turns a cleanable phone into a dead one.
- Dry the outside, tap it gently with the charging port facing down, and leave it somewhere with moving air.
- Skip the rice. Apple itself advises against it — it doesn't pull water out of the phone and leaves dust in the ports.
Don't wait days to see if it recovers. Corrosion keeps working even when the phone looks dry.

- Any screen change after water, as soon as you can.
- Before you try to charge it.
