What it's likely to be
Reduce White Point or Auto-Brightness
Most likelyReduce White Point quietly lowers the top brightness. Auto-Brightness keeps adjusting it down in dim rooms.
Phone is hot
PossibleiPhone dims the display to protect itself when it's too warm — common in a car or under the Malaysian sun.
Worn panel or backlight
PossibleOlder LCD backlights lose brightness, and some replacement panels are dimmer than the original.
Try this first
- Settings › Accessibility › Display & Text Size: turn off Reduce White Point, and switch off Auto-Brightness to test.
- Let the phone cool down out of the sun, take the case off, and check again.
- Look at it outdoors in daylight next to another iPhone. If both are similar, the screen is fine.
Bring it in if
- Still dim when cool, with every setting checked.
- One part of the screen is darker than the rest.
- It became dim after a drop or a screen replacement.

Board repair
