What it's likely to be
OLED burn-in
Most likelyPixels that showed the same bright image for a very long time age faster than the rest and leave a permanent shadow.
Temporary image retention
PossibleA shadow after hours on one screen that fades by itself. Not damage.
Low-grade OLED replacement
Less commonIf the screen was replaced before, some cheaper OLED panels show retention sooner.
Try this first
- Set a short Auto-Lock time (Settings › Display & Brightness › Auto-Lock) so static screens switch off.
- Use Dark Mode and keep brightness below maximum if the phone sits on a static screen for hours, such as maps or a dashcam app.
- Show a full-screen moving video for a while. Temporary retention fades; burn-in doesn't.
No app or setting can undo real burn-in. Anything that claims to is just showing colours.
Bring it in if
- The ghost image is still there the next day.
- It's in the middle of the screen where it bothers you every day.
